Abstract

The important problem in modern multicultural world is to form the abilities of effective international communication, social coexistence, and diverse creative activity. In this aspect, the formation of analytical and interpretative writing skills remains a priority. This helps to shape humanistic values, interest in different cultures, languages and literature.

In the pursuit of this goal, the aim of the article is to reveal the experience of the universities of Izmail and Odessa in the activation of the students' analytical and interpretative writing. The task of the article is to reveal the system of exercises considered as comprising three levels: descriptive (purposed to a written analysis of explicit information); evaluative (provide a written analysis of implicit information, philosophical, historical and psychological aspects of problems); constructive (assure an independent understanding and interpretation of the behavior and activities of the individual).

As a basis for acquaintance of students with European and American culture and literature, we selected such works of French writers as André Maurois (« Les violettes du mercredi », « Myrrhine », «Fleurs de saison », «Raz de marée», «Une Carrière», «La Foire de Neuilly», «Le Porche Corinthien»), Prosper Mérimée («Tamango», «Mateo Falcone», «La partie de trictrac», «Carmen»), Philippe Hériat («Les enfants gatés »), and American writer Ray Bradbury («Dandelion Wine»).
